Keeping Austin weird shouldn’t be difficult
Sunday, October 1st, 2006Well, despite my grim prognostications on Thursday, the wedding trip was a lot of fun. I still felt pretty crummy on Thursday and Friday, but not enough to entirely keep me from having a good time. The wedding was in Ausin, TX. I had actually been there once about ten years ago, but I was pretty much confined to the UT campus then. This time, we were staying south of campus and south of the capitol building by 6th Street. If you aren’t familiar with Austin, 6th Street is basically the heart of Austin’s nightlife, which is to say it is basically wall to wall bars. People kept trying to tell me that this was pretty normal for a big college town, but I have honestly never seen anything like this in my life. We counted about 130 bars/nightclubs within walking distance of where we were staying, and personally witnessed the teaming hoards of people that were still crowding the streets at 2 in the morning. The whole thing was pretty amazing. Suffice it to say for now that I am exhuasted and I’ve got an early day tomorrow and a lot of work to catch up on (and the SVU marathon today isn’t really helping matters…) But I will give a full account of the festivities soon.
