I can’t be a zombie all the time

Sunday, July 2nd, 2006

Sigh. Now that I’ve had my fifteen seconds of zombie fame, I doubt that I will ever have anything anywhere near as exciting to post here. And believe me folks, the idea of just quitting while I’m ahead and never posting again has been tempting. But it is for that select handful of dear readers who actually keep checking in from time to time that I feel obligated to keep trying to find things to mention here. So this week, allow me to share with you Adventures in Cat-Sitting: The Sequel.

Yes, Trevor and I agreed to cat-sit again. Dont’ ask why–I guess we’re just suckers for cute furry faces. Fortunately, there were no hissing incidents this time, although there were casualties.

Sam’s adorable little chick met an untimely end…

Aside from the yowling outside our doors in the wee hours of the morning, the roll of paper towels demolished, and the occasional pooh outside the litterbox, all went well generally. And fortunately for us, one particular kitty seemed to have moved past his creepy suckling habit. Oh, did I forget to post the video of that from last time? Well, today is your lucky day then! Click on the dufus below to see the kitties in action. It’s about 1 mb, but it’s worth it if you like weird cat videos.

Deutschland über nichts

I wouldn’t really call myself a soccer fan. Sure, I played soccer as a kid and had a good time, and I’d watch a game on tv now and then. But I don’t really follow the sport, or know any players’ names. Or at least, I didn’t until the World Cup started this year. Now I can join my friends in gawking at the unnaturally gangly Crouch, or making fun of Brazil’s Ronaldo for being past his prime. I know the Italian goalie is Buffon, but I think the Portuguese goalkeeper is better.

But after today’s game, I just don’t know if I can watch anymore. It was bad enough to see the Germans lose, since I was pulling for them. But to see them lose to the Italians! It was more than I could bear. Have you seen the Italian soccer team’s strategy? When the play isn’t going your way, take a dive and roll on the ground crying like a baby until you get the call. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Now my only hope is that the Altador Cup goes better. Go Haunted Woods!

My summer project

For those of you familiar with the infamous coffin table, it now has a new face. Yes, I’ve actually somehow managed to transform a high school Halloween prop into an elegant piece of furniture, suitable for use as the focal point of our living room and still usable as a Halloween prop.

Yeah yeah, I know I could have just tossed the thing and bought a normal coffee table, but why spend my money on fancy, mass-produced furniture when it just means I’d have less to spend on books, rats, and anime?

I’m not sure that it’s exactly elegant, or that it ought to be the focal point of our living room, but it looks a lot better than it used to. The composite chip board orginally used is nice and sturdy, but all the little bumps made it pretty much impossible to really clean. And since we use the table *a lot* it seemed ease of cleanup would be a good thing. So after a few days hard work and a few trips to the local hardware store, I filled in the holes, put on some fresh paint, and gave it a few thick coats of polyurethane to seal the coffin-y goodness in and our junk food crumbs out. Let’s hope it lasts because I am so not looking forward to doing that again!

In other news, we broke down an installed the a/c today, but I’m not posting any pictures of that because I don’t want any evidence of the craptasting installation job Trev and I did, just in case it falls out the window ;-)

I dare you to click on me…
Yes!!!!! It finally came today. The greatest poster ever now hangs in our living room, even if my craptastic pictures don’t do justice to it. Although if you haven’t read the sixth book, you might not get it. Losers ;-)
