The money pit
February 16, 2008The great Roomba experiment is turning out to be a failure. I finally got the new CPU for the poor defunct roomba, installed it, charged the little guy up and enjoyed a happily functioning little roomba. That blissful experience lasted less than 24 hours. Now, little Omar Juan Carlos was back to his former, insolent ways. He refuses to charge.
Frankly, I am baffled by the whole thing. It’s obviously not the battery–he ran for at least an hour after that first charge and the battery is new. And the fact that he worked and charged that first time after I put in the new circuit board would tend to make one think that the new board had fixed the situation. So why won’t it charge now? Did the new board suddenly fry after that first charging? I’m sure it’s possible, but if the charger were frying its circuits, would it have even charged the first time? But if the problem isn’t in the main circuit board, why did replacing it result in a successful charging cycle?
To make a long story short, I’m stumped. As much as I really liked the idea of having a roomba, I don’t think its worth investing any more time and money into this one to try and make it work. But I assure you that someday I will have robots cleaning my floor!!!
